It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. Stop by and see what everyone’s been reading!

My spring is packed with activities and events. All very fun things to do, but it’s definitely going to keep me busy! I have two running races, one mid-April, one mid-May, that I’m training for. I’m riding in the Five Boro Ride through NYC at the beginning of May. I have four birthdays and one wedding – road trip to Boston! And one book launch party (my friend, Alissa Grosso and her young adult book Popular being released in May). All this in addition to work and trying to finish my final revisions for my book. Craz-i-ness! 😀

In between running around like a crazy person, here’s what I’ve been reading:

Body Double by Tess Gerritsen – This was my first Gerritsen novel and I really enjoyed it. Interesting plot, compelling characters, fast-paced storyline, all the makings of a great TV series. Oh wait, it is a TV series! Rizzoli and Isles are characters that just beg to be put on a TV drama. Body Double is not the first in the series, but despite not realizing this until I was a quarter of the way through, I wasn’t too lost and quickly got wrapped up in the drama. A great read for anyone who likes Patricia Cornwell or Kathy Reich’s suspense-filled novels.

It’s Not Really About the Hair by Tabatha Coffey – Though Coffey’s memoir starts off a little too mired in “I really don’t care if people think I’m a b****” it quickly turns to interesting tales about how she came to be the host of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover on Bravo. She tells a horrifying tale about plastic surgery gone awry while trying to fit in with the American image of perfection. And her stories about the salon industry were intriguing. A quick, fun read that presents an interesting perspective on life.

Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly – I heard a lot of good things about this YA novel before I ever got my hands on it. I was a little nervous as I usually am when reading a book after hearing a lot of hype about it, but so far it’s living up to it and then some! I’m actually listening to this on CD and the narrator does a great job of getting the right tone. The most surprising element is that it’s not at all what I expected. There are a lot of unique characters, settings, and storylines already and I’m only on the first CD! I’m really impressed by Donnelly style of writing and the way she captures so many emotions in this YA novel.

Ill Wind by Rachel Caine – I’d seen some Caine other books floating around, and being checked out, at the library so I wanted to see for myself what the buzz was about. This is the first book in her Weather Warden series. Joanne, the protagonist, is on the run from corruption that has entangled her into its chaos. She controls storms, but can’t control the people trying to kill her. So far, a great, exciting read!

I’m enjoying all my great reads and can’t wait to see what you’ve been reading too! 🙂

  1. You do have a busy spring planned! I have been staying away from the race circuit, but am still running when the weather let’s me. 🙂

    Have a great week!

    • I’m hoping for some good weather for my races – enjoy your runs!

  2. I have Revolution. Not only did I read good things about it on the blogosphere, but I attended a conference where the author’s agent used that novel to demonstrate many writerly points.

  3. Revolution would be very interesting as an audiobook. I found myself rushing though it because I wanted to find out what happened.

    • That’s the only bad part about listening to it on CD! It’s hard not to keep driving around for hours. 🙂

  4. You have good books going here – Body Double sounds good – I have not read this author for a long time.

  5. I’ve been wanting to read a Tess Gerritsen book ever since I watched Rizzoli & Isles…great series. Wonder why it hasn’t come back?

Hope you have a great reading week.

    Here’s MY MONDAY MEMES POST

    • I checked, because I was nervous too, and it’s coming back July 11 – yay!

  6. That’s a busy couple of months! Glad you’re fitting in some good books in there.

  7. i actually watched that first reality show that tabatha was on. i had no idea she wrote a book; now my curiosity is piqued and i’ll need to check it out.
